The following is a set of guidelines that all pages on the wiki must comply with. Pages created or edits made to a page must follow these guidelines, or such contributions may be reversed.

General

PBSPedia is a wiki dedicated to the PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) and the branding, operations, and programming of its affiliates. As such, all content and pages on the wiki must stay relevant to this topic.

What qualifies for a page?

Every PBS affiliate, whether current or former, shall have a page. Every affiliate shall also have a range of sub-pages, which shall be individually dedicated to the affiliate's:

  • Print logos - Logos used in general branding
  • Station IDs (Identifications) - Graphic bumpers seen during program breaks
  • Sign-ons and Sign-offs
  • Production logos - Graphic bumpers seen before or after programming to signify involvement in production
  • Programming history - An outline of the station's nationally and locally produced programming over the years.

Pages for non-PBS affiliated producers or distributors of PBS programming may be created if necessary.

How should pages be formatted?

Pages on the wiki shall be structured according to their subject matter.

  • Every page and sub-page for an affiliate shall contain Template:AffiliateIndex, with the first parameter being the name of the affiliate. This template will make navigation between sub-pages of an affiliate easier.

Affiliates

  • Every page for an affiliate shall give a brief description of the affiliate and its history at the top.
  • Every page for an affiliate shall contain an infobox template giving more info about the affiliate.
    • If the affiliate is a single station, then Template:Station shall be used.
    • If the affiliate is a network of several stations (e.g. a statewide affiliate), then Template:Network shall be used.

Print Logos

  • Every page for an affiliate's print logos shall list the print logos based on their chronological usage, separated by a double equals sign heading.
  • The heading separating each logo shall contain the years the logo was approximately used in. (e.g. Logo #1: (19xx-20xx)).
    • If a logo's exact usage years are unknown, include only the year (if the logo has only one known usage) or the range of years (if a logo has multiple known usages) in which it appeared.
  • The best quality image available of the print logos are to be provided in each heading, given that the images do not contain any digital flaws or artifacts.
  • Information about the print logo's designer(s) if known are to be given in each heading.

Station IDs

  • Every page for an affiliate's station IDs shall list the station IDs based on the chronological usage of their respective branding packages, separated by a double equals sign heading.
  • The heading separating each branding package shall contain the years the branding package was approximately used in. (e.g. Branding Package #1: (19xx-20xx)).
    • If a branding package's exact usage years are unknown, include only the year (if the branding package has only one known usage) or the range of years (if a branding package has multiple known usages) in which it appeared.
  • A comprehensive gallery of images or videos of station IDs used as part of the branding package are to be provided in each heading. Images and videos are to be separated by tabbers.

Sign-ons and Sign-offs

  • Every page for an affiliate's sign-ons and sign-offs shall list the sign-ons and sign-offs based on their chronological usage, separated by a double equals sign heading.
  • The heading separating each sign-on or sign-off shall contain the exact date of the sign-on or sign-off. If an exact date is not provided, the month or year are to be listed. (e.g. Sign-off #1: (January 1, 1989))
  • Video or audio of the sign-ons and sign-offs are to be provided in each heading.

Production logos

  • Every page for an affiliate's production logos shall list the production logos based on their chronological usage, separated by a double equals sign heading.
  • The heading separating each logo shall contain the years the logo was approximately used in. (e.g. Logo #1: (19xx-20xx)).
    • If a logo's exact usage years are unknown, include only the year (if the logo has only one known usage) or the range of years (if a logo has multiple known usages) in which it appeared.
  • The best quality image and video of the production logos are to be provided in each heading, alongside images or videos of its variants. Images and videos are to be separated by tabbers.
  • Information about the production logo's animator(s), animation style, music used (if the music is not an original composition), and any other necessary details are to be given in each heading.

Programming history

  • Every page for an affiliate's programming history shall list the national and local programs that the affiliate has produced.
  • Shows are to be listed by bullet point and separated by chronological headings based on the year the programs first aired.
  • A brief description of the program is to be provided. If a program is a documentary, this must be specified.
